Laser teeth whitening is the most effective form of in-chair whitening. A special gel is used for whitening, the activity of which is enhanced by a laser.
The procedure takes about 30 minutes, the results are visible immediately, and tooth sensitivity is completely gone within 24 hours. The advantage of the laser over whitening in a chair without a light source, or whitening with other light sources (whitening lamps), is that the laser beam is aligned with the photo-activatable gel – all the energy of the laser beam is used to activate the hydrogen peroxide at the same time and is absorbed; the tooth tissue is not heated. This is the fastest method of whitening, as the maximum effect of the whitening gel is obtained in a short time. Due to the relatively short gel application time, negative effects on tooth tissue are eliminated.
While most office teeth whitening systems are based on an activating effect by heating the tooth, the laser activates the whitening gel with monochromatic light rather than heat. However, there are no “magic” whitening methods (we have tried most of them in our clinic) and the response of teeth to whitening is individual. If the patient wants an even more pronounced effect after in-chair whitening, additional home whitening is sometimes recommended (we make caps for all our clients), with an individual whitening protocol (usually 2-3 days are enough for additional whitening).
