Ceramic braces are the most frequently used type of braces in the world, especially when talking about the esthetic zone. Many adult patients worry about how their teeth will look, when wearing braces, but it really should not be an object of concern. Minor teeth misalignments can be easily corrected using Invisalign – teeth straightening splints, unfortunately, this method is rather expensive and does not always suit patient’s needs. Lingual braces might suit everyone, but are expensive nonetheless. Therefore, ceramic braces are an effective and esthetically looking alternative. Due to special construction these braces break vertically, instead of breaking horizontally, when removed, thus causing no discomfort for a patient. Seldomly, brackets can break throughout the treatment, but such brace can be easily replaced. Due to high-quality ceramics, braces’ color does not change eventually.
Good oral hygiene is mandatory when wearing ceramic, as well as any other, type of braces. One must remember that braces themselves do not cause caries and dental plaque, but neglect of oral hygiene does. One must thoroughly clean his teeth twice a day and after the meals, when wearing braces, in order to reduce dental plaque formation and enamel demineralization risk.
A toothbrush with prolonged filaments (rotational and sweeping motions) and one tooth toothbrush (sweeping motions from all four sides) along with fluoride containing toothpaste are recommended when wearing braces. Interproximal area should be cleaned using interdental brush. A floss, a mouthwash or fluoride mouthrinse along with plaque disclosing tablets could also be used. Plaque disclosing tablets let one know, which areas of dental arch has plaque remaining, therefore allowing to improve one’s oral hygiene. Plaque forming bacteria reside not only on tooth surface – tongue should also be cleaned accordingly. All things considered, ceramic braces are expensive, but results are rewarding.
