Myorelaxing splints

Myorelaxing splints are indicated if a person complains of pain in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) area.

The joint disorder (TMD) symptoms:

• Facial pain or tenderness in the area around the ear, i.e. temporomandibular joint (TMJ) area
• Crackle and pain when opening the mouth
• Jaws get "stuck" or "lock" in the open- or closed-mouth position
• Pain in TMJ area when eating

In case of these symptoms the correct diagnosis is very important. The doctor will surely recommend performing magnetic resonance imaging, if you have more than one of these symptoms.

Myorelaxing splints are indicated only if no occlusal problems are present. Otherwise, orthodontic treatment may be necessary.

Myorelaxing splint is individually produced by dental technician. It is fairly soft but can perfectly withstand occlusal loads in molar teeth area. Thus masticatory muscles relax and reduce the pressure on the temporomandibular joint. 

It should be worn during sleep. Over time, the symptoms disappear, if not, medication treatment can be applied.
